It seems like it has been a long year but suddenly the Winter league is all but upon us. The format for this winter season is the same for last year, 9 rounds of 4 ball better ball competitions over 14 holes, with the best 8 scores out of the 9 to count (if we are unable to play all 9 then it will be best 7 from 8 and if less than 8 it will be all rounds to count). The holes that are out of play will be the 1st, 10th, 11th and 18th. The competitions will start on the 2nd hole and finish on the 9th hole.
The route of the winter league course will be, 2nd , 3rd 4th, then up 17th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, then up 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and finish on the 9th .
From the start of the winter league you will be able to play off a mat from where you lie on the fairway if you wish and also from the rough. Alternately if you don’t want to use a mat you can take your ball to either side of the fairway and play from the first cut or the rough. You may play from the fairway when your ball is beyond the white posts at the side of the fairway, when temporary greens are in play on the 2nd & 15th holes you can play from the fairway when past the white stakes with BLACK TOPS.
You can only play with the same partner a max of 3 times in the 9 rounds.
Your ball must be played from the tee mats for all tee shots, you may stand off the mat if the mat is slippy.
Lift clean and place your ball within 6”, no nearer the hole through the general area (through the green)
When Bunkers are in play, you may lift your ball and rake the bunker where you lie but replace your ball on the exact same spot then play your shot. Please rake or smooth the area as you leave the bunker. If the bunker is waterlogged and you are unable to play from the bunker you can drop your ball outside the bunker without penalty not nearer the hole, keeping the spot where your ball was lay between the hole and where you drop the ball.
When the course is frosty and temporary greens are in play the bunkers will be out of play and you must drop your ball at the side of the bunker not nearer the hole. When not in use the temporary greens are GUR and the ball must be dropped at the side of the green not nearer the hole. Alternately you may putt from the temporary green.
The handicapping for the winter league will be unusual this year as the new World Handicapping System becomes live on the 2nd November, after we have played 3 rounds of the league. To begin with the handicap will be 9/10th of a max of 24.
After the 2nd November the handicap will be 85% of the course handicap (TBC), the course handicap will be taken from the Yellow tee ratings.
We are introducing the new handicapping system midway through the winter league as we feel it would cause some confusion when playing winter opens and turkey shoots as the new system would apply to them and it will give you the opportunity to become familiar with the system before the start of the new season in 2021
The rules and route of the course are on the notice boards in the locker room and the entrance to the locker room.
