Accrington Golf Club is an excellent friendly club with an equally excellent 18hole course, located in a lovely setting with stunning views across to the Ribble Valley. The Ladies Section is warm, friendly, thriving and very active. We have 56 members across the various categories and a good mix of low, medium and higher handicappers; including 3 single figure handicappers. We are a very competitive club, and are pleased to have sufficient players who want to play competitively, whilst also recognising the place for less competitive players and social golfers.
We play in numerous external Lancashire, East Lancashire, Manchester & District and national competitions. We have had an excellent degree of success over the years. It is noteworthy that the ladies got through to the Grand Finals of the National Mail on Sunday Competitions in Spain in October 2017 and came a very creditable 4th out of an original field of over 3000clubs. The competitions we enter include:
- Lancashire Scratch, Handicap and Bronze Teams
- National Mail on Sunday Knockout
- Annodata National Wordplay Knockout
- National Daily Mail Foursomes Knockout
- Manchester & District Bell Cup
- East Lancashire Scratch & Worsley trophy
- Lancashire Interclub Trophy
- National PING championships
Our Ladies competition day is Tuesday, although early and late in the golf calendar, we play at weekends. We also have our Lady Captain’s & Lady President’s day at weekend. We have a full and varied programme of competitions throughout the year. We play qualifying competitions from late March to mid- October and also have a winter league from October to March playing on both Tuesdays and weekends. The club also runs several Open Ladies and Mixed competitions. See the separate page for the full list and entry conditions. Booking is through the BRS computerised system or the Club Secretary or the Professional’s shop.
The golf club has a very busy social scene throughout the year, in which the Ladies section is heavily involved e.g. Spring Fayre, Family Fun Day, fashion shows, Sportswoman’s Evening, Summer Ball, charity events, Xmas parties, Annual Dinner, quizzes etc. These are all very well attended, excellent nights. In addition Lady Captain’s and Lady President’s days are always followed by a social with live entertainment.
We welcome and encourage all types of new members to join on a variety of deals. For further information contact the General Manager – Paul Wright on 01254 350112 or email firstname.lastname@example.org

THE JAMES BRAID CONNECTION
A well known golfer in the 1920’s and course designer of many prestige courses, James Braid designed the Accrington course in 1928. We are very honoured to have as a Lady member, Lil Dykes (Lady Captain Elect 2018), the great grand-daughter of James Braid. She is an excellent golfer who only took up the game 10 years ago in her later years, after a successful international athletics career. Lil’s handicap is now down to 10. Watch this space –it must be in the genes!
